Hi all,

today I'm into day 15 of BP.
After stopping Medrol (prednisolone) last week, the pain really kicked in.
Since some days I can close my eye little bit. I think it also depends how tired I am.
Sometimes in the morning I can close it but later in the day it's just stays open.
Sometimes I think that I can frown my eye very little bit but an hour later it's doing nothing again.

And it's the same with the pain, sometimes the pain starts in the back of my ear like a wave and then goes through all my face for some time. Also this gets more hard in the evening. Anyway, tomorrow I have to go to the neurologist to have another check.
The pain is the most frustrating right now because that is stopping me to have a good night sleep. And since I not rest it's not getting better...
I feel like turning in circles...

The pain is normal to feel, even at day 15. My pain just recently subsided, Now I am just waiting for more movement, I feel exhausted all the time and sometimes I am dizzy. Put hot compresses on the side you have the pain. I took tylenol with codeine and it helped me alot. Tomorrow ask the dr. for pain meds, there is no reason you have to suffer. Let us know what the neuroloigist said. Take care

Hang in there. I found that moist heat really helped for the pain. Rest as much as possible and don't overwork trying to get movement.

Hi there,

went to the neurologist yesterday.
Nothing really new. He tested the nerve but that was still doing nothing.
I have to go to the chiropractor now for electric stimulation. I also have to do an MRI. He don't aspect anything from that but just wants to make sure...

Afterwards I had to go to a party where I had some drinks so I was quiete late in bed.
5 'o clock I woke up with incredible pain behind my ear.
Maybe because my body is to tired?? I have quiete a bad day today, pain throughout all the day which sets me back a little bit since yesterday was the first of an almost pain free day...

There will be more pain free days to come. Once you have one it will get better from there. I am a week ahead of you. I got bp on Jan 18th. Did you get some pain meds? Just relax as much as you can, put hot compresses on as often as you can. Good luck

Hang in there Tom. Once you see a painfree day you will see more on and off until they are pretty much gone. I also have found that sometimes movement will follow the painful day up to a week after it. I am a bit further out then you. Mine set in on Dec 1st. I have a lot more movement but very weak. Upper left lip still does not move but I have felt some switching and some pain there so I am hoping that is on its way to movement soon. I still get pain. Most days that it hits it seems to be a lot more tolerable than that first month. The pain was so bad then that I could hardly open my eyes. So hang in there..it does get better :-).

Hi Tom

I am very concerned that you are going to have estim as it is very much discouraged by the "experts" on this website - it can cause cross wiring of the nerves and set you up for more problems down the track. Estim will not help that poor nerve - it is like a broken leg and in fact you need to treat your face in the early months as you would a broken leg - rest, let it heal, do not force movements, don't chew gum and don't have estim! The longtimers are strong on this.

Here in New Zealand estim is not offered as a treatment option. If you have already had one treatment don't worry but I urge you to do more research before you have any more.

Pain is very common in the early weeks especially after you finish the steroid medication as that masks it.

Remember - you will improve.

Best wishes
Jillian

Hi Tom,

As Jillian has, I've read on this site and others that estim can have negative and long term effects.

I had some ongoing pain for several weeks after my onset. I actually found acupuncture (which I had never tried or even considered trying before my onset) to be very helpful. it really did help with the pain. Also, several folks on this site suggested filling a sock with rice, heating it in the microwave and using that as a "heating pad" along the parts of your face/neck/skull that hurt---that helped me a ton too.

For some of us the healing is slow, but most people recover quickly and fully. Even for those of us that are slower to heal--most of us recover almost completely. It took me weeks and weeks to get any movement back at all, and now at over a year later, I'm nearly 100% and most days don't even think about it! Hard to imagine in the early days, I know

Good luck!
Laura

Thanks for all the responses!!

I also read that that estim is not always a good thing and also told this to the chiropractor yesterday.
He says he treats about 10 people a year with electro stimulation and acknowledges that it doens't always do the trick but is convinced it is not a bad thing either...
This is quiete a difficult situation I'm in as I don't know what to do...

I had a first session of 15 minutes yesterday...

Anyway, I'll keep you up to date how it's evolving and what I'm going to do.

Last night I slept like a rose and today is a day with not too much pain. From time to time I feel a little bit nagging pain behind my ear but this is nothing compared to last week or yesterday.
I didn't take any pain killers since 10 'o clock last night so I'm quiete happy. I don't see any movement at all but just the pain that is fading away makes me very happy since I was quiete depressed yesterday. Hopefully this semi pain free feeling continues through the night and the next coming days....
