I am by no means fully recovered but at 9.5 months I am about 95% there. I have even experienced some recovery in the last 2 weeks which broke the stagnant trend that I was seeing for about a month. My eye is still not blinking fully but it seems to be a stronger blink and my eye-mouth synkinesis is soooooo much less; I would rate it a 1.5 out of 10 (10 being the worst). My improvements at this point are minor and small but I do a recovery overview every 3 months and I do see a big improvement since the end of April:
-much less tightness -greater ease of movement -stronger mouth movement -better eye closure -improved eye lubrication -reduction in synkinesis -wider, more even smile (but still a little crooked) Keep your spirits up! Things DO GET BETTER. I think it might take me a good 18 months to recover fully and I am optimistic that I will get there. It has been a very slow process for me all the way through and my patience has been tested but I am a stronger person because of it. Wishing everyone out there a speedy and peaceful recovery |

I may be in and out with this post. I am at work. :-)
I got BP on Dec 1st 2009. My recovery has been very slow but improves all the time. I am dealing with the eye-mouth synkinesis right now. Its starting to back off. It was at its worse about a month ago. My eye lid constantly moved with anything I did with that side of my nose or mouth. When I yawn it closes. When I close it you can slightly feel the outer edge of my lips when to move up. Can bearly see it now though. Still dealing with the eye not blinking all the way but its almost there. I bearly have to use stuff in my eye anymore. Many days I don't have to use anything. Today my eye lid on the bottom is twitching so strong its driving me mad LOL My bottom lip curls up when I smile but my upper one does not. I can see my front tooth on that side (almost all of it) and just bearly can see the next tooth. I hope one day to have that mostly back. If not I will live with it but I miss smiling with a toothy smile. When I smile real hard my BP eye almost closes. I still at times have the bug crawling feeling on that side of my face and sometimes some weird stuff on the NON bp side but its not all the time and not everyday. Its improved soooo much. It good for me when I hear that others have taken alittle longer to heal. |

Hi all
It has been since november 10th for me.I'm about 80-85% recovered. Eye winks, smiles is nearly normal, some wrinkles above my eye. My eye still waters and I still have to hold my lip when rinsing my mouth. my face still feels tight when I smile or when i talk to fast.I still can't make an O with my mouth. For the most part I'm fine but it would be nice to have the tightness in my face pass.I get alot of twitching in my nose and chin.Does look alittle funny when talking to someone when that happens. hope you all the best Salty |

Are any of you still feeling like your energy levels are affected, or has that pretty much passed?
How about others who were relatively fast healers....at what point did your energy come back? Did anyone else experience facial recovery followed by persisting fatigue? Did that go away eventually? Do you remember how long that took? This post was edited by Angela 2 (2010-08-13 20:05 GMT, 24 days ago) |

Angela,
Almost everyone experiences fatigue. There is no time pattern. It does go away. It's just one the of side effects of BP. Your fast facial recovery is a sure indication that your fatigue will go away eventually. |

Angela I have found that some recovery comes if I have a spell of being really tired. Like this weekend I could not get enough sleep. Almost like someone drugged me but then this morning I see some more movement/stength in areas. So the two could be connected. Or I was just REALLY tired :-)
I am about 8 months and have period of being tired still. Its not constant like it was though. I have a lot more energy. |

I am nearing three months with BP. Feeling stronger up until three days ago and now I am getting fatiqued in the afternoons. Can close my eye but still burning and tearing. Mouth is still crooked but has improved. This morning I experienced an odd sensation on the right side of my forhead and it travelled down to the right side of my jaw. It lasted a minute and really had me scared, kind of panicky. Does anyone know what this was? So far today I haven't experienced anything else. I continue to try and be patient and hopeful. I have not returned to work yet as I do counselling and am not comfortable with my speech and feeling of the paralysed side of my mouth. I am also having to put drops in my eyes several times a day and they burn a lot so that I can't read much.

Thank you, Sina and Kimberly. I looking forward to getting energy back. Every so often I seem to need to hear that what I'm experiencing is "normal". It definitely helps me stay patient.
Terry, I haven't experienced that sensation--I hope someone reads your description that can shed some light for you. Hang in there. |

Kimberly - your sinkinesis description is identical to mine. I thought it was a random hookup - a mismah of crossed connections, but I've read enough identical stories to think differently. Anyone try a nose flare that moves the lower middle eyelid? It's not a muscle any human could choose to move deliberately! Lift the eyebrows, mouth curls up. Upper lip lifts when I close my eyes. I remember in the dead-as-statue days quite annoyed at people complaining of synkinesis because at least they were moving, so I won't complain. It's better than paralysis. Happy to hear it eases up later.
